I would recommend checking the travel advisories for egypt as they do change from time to time.
Here is a link to the CDC's Travel page about North African countries.

There is some really good health and safetly information there. In general try not to wear open toed shoes as there is a certain parasite that can enter through your skin that lives in the sand. As well as a rather serious worm that can enter into your skin and attach to your liver, intestines, bladder, etc... The worm is found in several water sources including the nile as well as smaller rivers in Egypt. Also some streets can be pretty dirty depending where you are and it's just not a good idea to expose yourself to that. Also, make sure you have plenty of insect repellent. Malaria is not a big problem in Egypt but there are plenty of cases every year. It is spread by mosquitos so if you protect yourself with insect repellent you should be safe. If you do contract it see a local doctor immediately (don't worry pretty much all doctors speak english as thats the language they learn their practice in, although they often have heavy accents which may make them difficult to understand). Also pack plenty of sunscreen to protect your skin. A mosturizer is also a good idea to protect your skin from the arid climate. And of course when there drink bottled water only!

I am a Canadian girl living in Egypt for the last 2 years and the only jabs you REALLY need are .......typhoid..... make sure you have tetanus / polio and diphtheria up to date (it's free in Canada so why not? - sorry at least Ontario)......
And bring some Imodium......you never know what the food will do to you...even if you are careful!
However, with that said Egypt has great pharmacies and the drugs are cheap, cheap, cheap so you can get whatever you need here as well... Do not avoid any areas of Egypt....! (you will just regret it later).

not if you are going to The Sinai, ie Sharm el Sheikh or the Red Sea. If you are going to see 'real' Egypt i think you do. Personally i would keep away from real Egypt you may be disappointed. The tourist places on the sea are good though. Been twice now.

it depends what part you are going to. You may need malaria tablets. If you go into your nearest chemist or boots they will have a chart they can look at and tell you what you need. They can also give you a leaflet. I went to Sharm El Sheik and didn't need anything. Have a nice time! Egypt is amazing!

It is not compulsory, but I have been recently, and would advise you to consider having the main ones if you are travelling around Egypt. Cairo itself is OK though.
Happy holidays.
