I think it is more of a morality question then anything else. I haven't seen the film so I can't judge. But I can say that the thought of a 12 year old being raped sickens me. I have a daughter the same age and I really don't agree with it.
It may have been done appropriately. But you said she is getting paid for it. I have to feel different on that. It is not that she is getting paid for it. It is a question of how she feels about it. Saying she is getting paid sort of makes it sound sleazy.
I saw the interviews she did about it and I agree that she doesn't seem bothered by it. The studios did take every precaution and did in fact have child protection services on site.
I do agree with the commentary that we have a lot of sick people out there who would view this as legalized porn.
Basically I don't like the idea and the thought behind it. But it was her choice and if she did not do it, hollywood would get someone else to.
Please don't say she got paid for it. It really does make her sound so terrible. I know you probably meant that different.
I probably will see the movie at some point to make a more informed decision.

I think this is obviously a movie that needs to get a message out. Dakota Fanning is a wonderful actress and doesn't need to just take "any ole role". I think she and her mom carefully choose her roles. Whether it was a bad decision or not, the movie is done. This is a very mature 12yr old here. I'm sure her mom sat her down and thoroughly talked this out with her. But if you guys can remember, this is not the first time that a young girl has been raped in a movie. Remember "Bastard Out of Carolina" with Jena Malone. That was the hardest thing I have ever seen on screen in my life and it hurt my heart so bad. I remember crying and crying about it. I was about 26 at the time. But that was a necessary part of the movie. What's worse is that these movies mirror reality. I say kudos to Dakota and her mom. I know it was a hard decision to make but I'm sure some people will find strength in this movie.

If she doesn't have a problem, and her parents don't have a problem, then others shouldn't have such a problem with it either. She's an amazing young actress, and she's broadening her horizons.
It's a movie, if you don't like it, don't watch it. The movie is bringing more awareness to a horrible crime.
People who want to prevent it from coming out, are the people in denial that this sort of thing (rape on kids) actually happens. Either that, or they are the people who have been directly affected by it. That's understandable, but nobody is forcing you to watch it. There have other movies with horrible crimes... rapes, murders, prostitution. Does nobody realize this?
Let this talented young girl do her art.
If she's getting so much heat on this issue, shouldn't the actor playing the rapist, the director, producer be getting even more heat??

I think the whole thing is being blown way out of proportion... A bunch of holier-than-thou people riding around on their high horses, screaming the sky is falling, the sky is falling, when it's really a non issue.

As long as she was not traumatized by the experience, then I think there is nothing wrong with her playing that kid of role.

I think unless you've seen the film you shouldn't judge it. She has the right to take any acting gig she wants! It diversifies her as a person.

I read an article on this subject this morning, She said herself that she was just acting and when that scene was done she didn't really think about it anymore.

I think is sad. remember when you had 12? MAny people did things that later on, they are simply ashamed of it.
Its obvious her parents are "blinded" by her success.
Fanning started out pretty well. Watch and see from now on. Perhaps not in inmediately, but she could end up doing some acting work that would not be suitable for many of us...
Watch and see...
