This is potentially a major problem.
Is it under warranty? If so, check with Dell asap.

I had an HP laptop and an old IBM thinkpad that this happened to, and it was the internal connection to the cord. Depending on how this is constructed, usually it is attached to the motherboard ... it can be very difficult to fix without replacing the motherboard.

If it isn't still under warranty, take it to a computer store to have them look at it and see if it is fixable ...

Good Luck!

Hehe funny way you put that question lolz... Anyways that due to some damage in the socket or the jack.. To inspect either one take it to a place where there is sunshine or simply a powerful light and check inside that socket where you supposed to plug in the power jack. There maybe something in there this is obstructing or there is a pin sortta thing in there and that maybe misaligned, in that case get a thing like a screw driver and straighten it up, never push in the jack if it aint going cos it can damage your whole power system. Then if there is no problem there then check your Jack, There maybe something in that like sand or something thats obstructing the free movement. Hope this solves it. If it dosnt there is no way you can do anythign take it to a store.

Not sure why you should be pushing it into your leg, but it takes all sorts.

Which end are you having trouble with? If it's the wall end, try another socket. If it's the other end, either the connectors in the cable are loose/bent or the socket on the machine is duff. I'd try another cable, if you can. If that doesn't help, get a pro to look at it.

It's due to overheating and use. Plain and simple. You should consider getting a replacement before you fry the whole laptop power connection. Make sure you keep a receit in case it's the actual power receptacle. If that's the case then you have to get that fixed by a tech.

sometimes it happens. you need to talk to gateway and they will be able to replace the power supply or that connector at least. if you got a only 14 months ago, it might still be under warranty. good luck!
