There are such lists because each senator or congressman must submit their tax forms and documents of their assets, liabilities and expenses/salaries to the federal election commission when they run for office and each year when they are in office. I have seen the information posted online at opensecrets.org and www.fecinfo.com. I recommend opens secrets because it has convenient lists intead of just each candidate's filings etc.

They file tax returns with the federal elections commission. Most are millionaires and they pay no taxes. Tax free bonds and blind trust protect assets from taxes. In 2004, 132 million Americans filed Federal taxes. Half, 50 percent report incomes of less than $30,000. Also of 132 million 9677 report income of more than $10 million, that's .5 percent. They got the largest Federal tax cuts in History.
