Make sure you installed the Documents to Go software that comes with the Palm. If you did, try reinstalling it.

Lastly, perhaps you're trying to sync them incorrectly or have not saved them in the correct format. Here are the instructions from the Palm website.

You can open native Microsoft Word documents on your handheld. Edits can be made using Documents To Go. Some editing functionality is not supported, such as multiple font sizes and spell check. When you save the revised document, you will have the option of saving the file as an optimized "Word To Go" document or as a native .DOC file. The next time you synchronize, any edits you made will be copied onto your desktop versions of the document.
