gee what happened to freedom of Speech? It is beyond stupid and is a complete waste of tax money. In your own personal house a swear jar may be a nice way to curb a 10 year old tongue but, in the real ADULT world this is beyond stupid. I'm sorry if you want to ban a word why not start burning books(because there are a lot with that word in it) I personally don't use it but, the list of other words that would also have to be on that list just to make it a racially equal list is insane. I think your dear mayor is in desparate need of an intervention he is addicted to power and very dangerous. You will not speak this way how long until you will walk this think this way etc.etc.
EDIT what is the name of your local paper? People in here are making valid points perhaps some would like to send some letters to the Editor!

Well then, let's do that the second that someone calls me "cracker", "whitey", "redneck", or "inbred". Let's fine everyone who calls a hispanic a "*******" or any other terrible name.

If you really want to get down to it, anything at all that segregates a certain racial group should be considered downright racist. If caucasians were to start a "National Caucasian College Fund", people would have a fit. They would scream racism.

So, I think that ANY racial slur should be penalized. NOT just the "N" word.

I was wondering when someone would put this question on here...thanks!
I think it is absolutely outrageous!!!! So, when is there going to be a law against calling a mexican a '*******' etc..? When will it all end??? You can't make laws to force people from saying what they want. If parents can't teach kids....then it shouldn't be up to the government when they are adults! I hope it doesn't pass. And I hope it doesn't spread to other communities either.

Too many laws now. How about *******, howlie, honkie, ****, bull dyke, ******, .Maybe we can have a scale of how bad the work is like calling a woman a broad. Maybe the fine for that is $25
This is the kind of common sense we have of elected officials

Nope. There's a teeny thing called Freedom of Speech which will put a stop to that, unfortunatly.

What about freedom of speech. By the way, black people would suffer most. I hear them saying it all day long.

That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Will people also get fined for saying, ****, chink, spick, or honkey? They're all racist terms, but there is a 1st amendment issue here.

Great! There are plenty of rap stars who would accumulate millions of dollars in fines.

I have a problem with prior restraint on free speech.

So does our constitution.

i think it's stupid. we have free speach. i think it's wrong for everyone, black, white, asian, hispanic, etc, to use the term, but i dont think that people shoud be fined. if you want to drop the n-bomb and get your *** kicked, by all means, be my guest- but i dont think it's serious enough to warrent fines.
