Personally I am still debating with myself on this matter.
PLEASE keep in mind that I am a single GAY dude.
There are many judicial aspects which I am still contemplating. I admit MY ignorance and thus cannot offer a conclusive opinion.
The issue is much more complex than simply allowing two people who love each the right to "legally marry".
I read the below earlier today just by chance and became even more bewildered ;
ORSON SCOTT CARD ...a columnist , writes that homosexuals already have the "right" to marry. (just not to each other) Thus he states, homosexuals are not being discriminated against because no church or religion "demands proof" of heterosexuality prior to the "marriage". He says that a gay man can get married (to a woman though) so there in NO discrimination.
Card further states that homosexuals do not have the right to modify an existing definition of marriage. He says that if homosexuals are allowed to be "married" then marriage no longer can be defined. Period.
He further states that by allowing homosexuals to marry and call their union a marriage then three or four people can declare their "love" and demand the same "marriage" rights. (his motive: Can 3 people who love each other be denied the right to marry....Would the definition of "marriage" once again need to be debated and changed? etc. etc.
NOTE: I repeat..I do not have a personal opinon yet, although I do find this Card dude a bit "paranoid".
Anyway..........if you want to see what this dude is all about just google his name.

yes gay marriages should be allowed. As a woman married to a man since 1979, I strongly believe they should have the same right to be happily married. When we got married, there was a lot of chatter that marriage 'was just a piece of paper'. Well it isnt. It is more then a piece of paper. It is a physical, spiritual, mental, and emotional commitment to share life, to help each other survive through all the trials and tribulations of life, to love and be loved wholly and completely, warts and all.
Everyone deserves happiness, and gays are no exception.
Canada has legal marriages. I would think people who are threatened by gays are those that are opposed to legal marriages in the U.S. I don't understand how a gay couple being legally married brings harm to anyone or has a negative effect on the values of any so called upstanding citizen. LIVE AND LET LIVE. SPEND ENERGY OF SOMETHING POSITIVE INSTEAD OF TEARING DOWN OTHERS FOR THEIR RIGHT TO EXIST PEACEFULLY.
In regards to the uneducated two cents worth from the person who said there are no gay animals... check your facts. There are indeed gay animals... and they are not of the human kind.

Yes, I believe that gay marriage should be legalized. Although the thought just occurred to me that this would potentially create a whole new realm of problems for divorce courts.
The government should not try to enforce morality except for the areas where it relates to interactions between entities. For example: the government should not outlaw lying and then fine children for lying, but the government should prohibit companies from lying to consumers. Likewise, actions that victimize another should be legislated.

Well, I think the government should read a little document known as the constitution and the bill of rights. In there, they will learn about SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE!!
Marriage should have NOTHING to do with law. Likewise, a church should be free to turn away any marriages based on their beliefs. It's their beliefs, and it causes no harm as the couple can just find another church to get married at. Hey, pagans would be happy to marry all y'all.

Newsflash - They did. They can go get married in Hawaii.
I think that the only valid reason they would not be allowed is because then best friends could get married for the tax benefits. But in this day and age, how many people that are straight and best friends going to claim they're gay just for a yearly benefit. So I think that yeah, they should be allowed. They're people too, and they have feelings just like everyone else.

If it is a matter of marriage or no equal rights--I'd say gay marriage should be legalized.
The problem is the law on same sex couples rights. They need to have all the same rights that a heterosexual couple has---the right of inheritance, medical decisions, tax breaks, etc.,.
This is where the breakdown is.

Yes, why not? I think it is unfair to judge who people fall in love with. Note that I say "who" - I don't exactly think a pig or a goat is a "who" (some people argue that if you allowed gay marriage people would want to start marrying animals).

Why not? Marriage is between two PEOPLE. People are people, whether male or female. The "sanctity of marriage" was done away with with no-fault divorce. If two people love each other enough to commit, it hurts no one, why not? Love is love is love. Many forms, many expressions. The more love the better. I would support legislation for love over war, hate or divisiveness any day.

I live in Canada where gay marriage is legal
If two people of the same sex fall in love they should be allowed to marry. What's the big deal?
Canada hasn't collapsed.
