he had a multi task
- taking command of his vehicle = directing the driver in witch general direction he had to steer( the driver will choose his path himself to arrive at the chosen indication) , putting the gunner on to the target and giving the loader order witch kind of ammunition he has to load and very important keeping a eye open onto the landscape for cover and any danger that may occur .
- when he his a troop ( platoon or group ) leader he has to direct the other tanks of his platoon in a general direction of attack or taking defensive positions.
In the first years of war there where some model of tanks where the crew existed only out of a driver, the commander and a loader or gunner. In this case the commander has also to full fill the role of gunner or loader. This is a big disadvantage in battle because the commander can't full fill his primary task ( commanding his crew ) for the full 100 %
