I am starting a record label in Los Angeles, CA and I was surfing through the internet and saw another record label in Belin, Gemany with the same name. What am I supposed to do am I allowed to use this name, I do not want to use another name because it took me about a couple months to get convinced into using this name and I like it. So if I'm not allowed to use it are there several ways I can get by and use the name i want?

I am guessing the record label I saw was out of date meaning it is still in the business but out of business

I would ask a lawyer because if you use the name and the other company gets wind of it especially if you make any money at this then they would sue you for the unauthoized use of the name - a lawyer may be able to tell you if any intrnational laws apply

Just add another word to it, or tweak the spelling. Otherwise, you're leaving yourself open to legal action that wouldn't be worth it in the long run.

If you're planning on remaining a very small operation, it might never make much difference. But hopefully your business will be successful, and the more visible it gets the more likely the other label would notice and they'd be within their rights to get a "cease and desist" order or even sue you.

My son owns a small recording studio in Memphis so i understand purely adequate to be risky:) i'd say connect to a smaller recording studio...they are going to deliver corporation your way. then you placed out recordings that they have got executed. with a view to locate skills...you should be interior the right geographical area interior the country and bypass to the close by venues, community with human beings interior the market and get some buzz going.

Do like the band "Cher" did in the 90's. Put a "UK" after it. They called themselves "Cher UK" and the real Cher couldn't sue them.

PS The former leader of Cher UK has a great new band called The Black Rabbits
