Hey... a question I can expertly answer! We (hubby, two sons 12 and 14, and me) stayed at Pop Century in Disneyworld in October 06 for ten days, and we went to both waterparks. Our favorite was definitely Typhoon Lagoon, though Blizzard Beach had some pretty cool rides too. Here's a breakdown of likes and dislikes about both parks:
Typhoon Lagoon-
Loved:
- the huges waves in the wave pool - each wave blew us back at least 15 - 20 feet and kept us squealing for more!
- the tropical feel of the place - we're from Canada, so anything tropical is a welcome respite from our decidedly "untropical" environment
- snorkeling in the Shark Reef was pretty amazing - we were even able to pet the stingrays!! (but the barbs have been removed from their tails)
- the crushn'gusher was a blast!
Didn't love:
- Ummm... I don't think there was anything we didn't enjoy about that place!
Blizzard Beach-
Loved:
- the family raft ride.. nice and big for a family to bounce around in, and a fairly long ride
- the "chair lift" to the top of the mountain was kinda nice... especially near the end of the day when the stairs were just getting too hard on my poor old knees!
- the view from the top of the summit plummit (or stomache plummit as I called it after my first ride down!!)
- the toboggan racers ride was fun - and soooo glad we didn't have to carry the sleds up to the top!
Didn't love:
- Blizzard beach wasn't as "warm feeling" as Typhoon Lagoon - but again, I'm from Canada and it just had a colder feel due to the motiff - for some people that might have a lot of appeal
- the Summit Plummit, though exciting, actually hurt my hips and butt quite a bit, not to mention the atomic wedgie you get even when you do cross your legs properly for the drop! (I'm not a large person, so my size isn't the issue here) The drop is cool, but the force of the water on the hips is actually painful
- Blizzard Beach just isn't as well laid out as Typhoon Lagoon... it's not as open, harder to keep track of the kids, can't see most slides from the other slides
- the "beach area" isn't as big as the one at Typhoon Lagoon, and you can't see most of the slide exits or "bottoms" from the beach area
If we could only do one of the water parks on future visits, we would definitely stick to Typhoon lagoon, and if were able todo more than one visit, we would repeat visit Typhoon Lagoon over Blizzard Beach any day!
