I have a Gateway laptop running on AMD Sempron, and wish to purchase a HDD Camera. Could anybody tell me what level Pentium is equivilent to my AMD Sempron. Also, am I likely to encounter any problems by using AMD or do all products run on either AMD or Pentium providing the right level of either is used??
Thanks for any help!!

A 2500 AMD runs as fast as a 2.5Ghz Pentium.

It doesn't matter what processor you run, as long as your fast enough. (requirements of camera)

I run a 3 gig 32 bit sempron. It is actually 1.8ghz but compared to a pentium 3 gig it is classed the same. It doesn't matter if it is AMD or Intel. Usually AMD processors are sold with both speeds shown. The actual speed and the higher speed which is the intel equivalent.
Semprons are the budget processors - either cut down a bit or older AMD processors rebadged.
They do run hotter but they are designed to. It makes absolutely no difference and, personally, I always go AMD when I build a rig.

A sempron processor is cheaper and not quite as powerful version of the AMD Athlon 64 processors. Both are 64 bit.

As such, being a value model, Sempron processors are better than Celeron processors, but not as good as a Pentium M, for instance.

The sempron shouldn't have any trouble handling your camera. If you're doing video editing you may need a good amount of memory (RAM) in your computer, however.

AMD or American Micro Devices and Intel are all built for windows PCs and hence they don't differ at all unlike a G4 Processor which used to come in apple mac computers. AMD works faster than Intel processors hence heats up a bit more but that is not a problem since manufacturers take action to control that heat. You could use the AMD processor based machine as much as the Intel counterparts. And there is absolutely no problem in hardware selection or software. Its just the brand of the processor.
