Already signed last month. This is now the largest petition ever submitted to the UK government - not that they're going to care for anyone's opinion except their own.

Road charging will be used to extract more money from motorists, end of story. Look at Poll Tax - in theory, a balanced way to ensure people paid their fair proportion of the cost of local services. In reality... well, the authorities can be a bit greedy, can't they?

The whole thing's a terrible idea. Do the government realise the effect this is going to have on already strapped haulage firms. Other companies will pass the burden onto their own employees who spend much of their time on the road and everyday road users will be hammered as well.
Surely we should be looking at alternate fuel types instead of bringing in yet another way to tax the working man (or woman)!

I agree that the more you use the roads, the more you should pay. This makes more sense than the current road tax, but I also think that the best way is to put the tax on fuel instead - then the ones who drive more, or drive more inefficient vehicles pay more, and the rest of us aren't penalised.

Oh my!!

I can't believe there are actually people who agree with the tracking system!

It costs £200 to buy which you have to pay yourself, and you get a monthly bill, a very LARGE monthly bill. A mother who was using her car to take her kids to and from school got a monthly bill of over £80.

A delivery driver, a lot of whom get paid peanuts, got a monthly bill of around £197.

I myself am a mobile mechanic and I also recover broken down vehicles, which means that I have to travel to my jobs, which is doing my customers a FAVOUR!! I charge next to nothing because its an expensive game maintaining a car these days, and I will be getting a huge monthly bill which will all but negate my income.

I know EXACTLY why these soapboxers are saying they agree with the tracker, its because they bearly drive anywhere due to the simple fact that the don't have to. Well, what about people who HAVE to drive? It will eat into their monthly income and cause serious problems.

Think about it for just one minute, guys, its going to cause an economical disaster and probably ruin a lot of peoples lives. The national debts will rise and bankruptcy and business failure will be rife.

Think about this whilst you're at it, this is just another money maker for the Government. they've got debts and we're paying them.

Do you agree with THAT as well?

Geordie

Drivers are charged too much already. Our petrol costs more than most places, the green bandwagon gets on my t*ts,I could drive my car non-stop for a year and use less fuel than one of the RAF jet planes( that fly over us constantly) uses in a day.
Keep road tax as it is but come down heavily on those who do not pay it.

Road charging would be ok if they dropped the Road Fund License but not as an added tax

I thought they already were charging - as petrol is nearly 80% tax the more I drive the more I pay.
