A bake sale.
Or, if it's a public event, a craft fair. Charge the vendors a fee to set up.

Done the murder mystery dinner - w/spaghetti and salad and pre-sold tickets for only $6 and we made a good deal of money. You may try this: a contest - type deal. Have a dessert -tasting. Sign up people to make desserts and then charge people to come in and taste test and then vote for their favorites. I think it would make for a good evening - especially if you could talk a lot of ladies into making the desserts. You could have the best chocolate chip cookie or the best brownie. Just a thought.

This can't be done at one of those. But a murder mystery dinner brings in big bucks, the students play the roles. You can order the scripts of the net for about $20-30.00.

car wash, facae painting, bake sale, craft sale. You could be convenience store size boxes of candy and the wholesale club and sell them. Have the students make bracelets and sell them. there are tons of ideas on the net...you could have a massive yard sale. Good luck

Auction off the student's help - babysitting, tilling gardens, weeding gardens, mowing lawns, help with cleaning houses, etc.
It wouldn't be done at the carnival, though.
