we have a boss who tries to control every action of our work, treats us like children in kindergarten, and eats, breathes and sleeps this job. We thought when she got married, she would have a life, but that did not happen. She is almost 50 and did not get married until a couple of years ago. She is trying to turn us all into "stepford workers".
She thinks we all should do our work alike, even though we all have our system to do our work. She wants to tell us all how to do our jobs, but does not want to give any assistance. We do social work with the public. She had to interview a client due to a worker being out and could not finish the interview. She came to me and asked me would I finish. Do you know why she could not finish it? She broke her fingernail!!! She dresses like a prima donna and doesn't think she is supposed to do manual labor. HELP!!!!!!

What can you do? Sounds like a bit of a freak but she hasn't actually done anything wrong. Ask for a staff meeting in order to explain your grieviances. You might even see the human side of her at said meeting. Failing that give her some Mary Jane and tell her to chill out.

Every work place would be perfect except for one or two people. You certainly can change employment and I would encourage you to consider it. If you are in the counseling area it might help to look in the mirror and look at part of the problem. You will never be friends with this person but you can keep out of her sights. She knows who you are and personally asked you to help her so there doesn't seem to be anything personal.

Sounds like she has some serious control issues. If you can't stand working in that environment and you have no recourse (as in going over her head) which would make things worse anyhow. You should maybe start hunting up a new job.

Well if there is someone who is over her as in power or rank I myself would get the workers together and hook up with this person who is her superior. Let this person know that NONE of you can work for or with her. If this does NOT work, then it is time to find another job. And LET this superior KNOW this as he/she may very well let your boss go versus losing ALL his/her workers who CANNOT work for this boss. POWER is IN NUMBERS. Good Luck.
