My period isn't due for a few days, but 4 days ago I "felt" pregnant. Out of curiosity, I took 2 tests from different brands- both showed positive (slight lines). Freaking out, I took 2 more tests every day after.......( I know).....and they were neg with the exception of a VERY faint positive yesterday. I would think that HCG levels would be INCREASING by now, or maybe the +'s are more sensitive tests? I know I won't know for sure until I've actually missed my period, but can anyone explain this to me? Is there a sudden surge of HCG around (implantation?) and then a drop? This has me going nuts. There is no bleeding or sign of miscarraige, that is IF I am pregnant. HELP!

First of all... there are a few explanations...

1 - you are pregnant, and the flux in signs could depend on the time of day you take the test - FIRST THING IN THE MORNING is the best time.

2 - you are pregnant, and your body is still increasing the hCG and the amount needed is simply still not high enough to register with a BOLD line

3 - you are NOT pregnant - and you are experiencing a "PHANTOM PREGNANCY"

The last one is probably not the case- but it is possible.

A phantom pregnancy, is when your body tricks you into thinking you are pregnant and begins to produce specific enzymes and hormones at low levels.

Some women with Phantom's even experience the feeling of a baby moving inside them - pretty scary!!!!

If you are truly concerned... you can try to make an appt with your doctor to schedule a blood test - which is much more accurate! OR you could wait a few days, try again!

Good luck!

A test will only show a positive result if it detects the hCG hormone in your urine. So a line (even a faint line) is a pretty good indicator that you are pregnant. They normally recommend that you take the test a few days after you miss your period. It's possible that the level of the hormone is still not high enough, resulting in the faint line.

I would wait until after you are expecting your period, then take another test. Or, go see your doctor to give you a blood test.

Good luck!

I can tell you from experience that if you had a positive most likely it was a real positive, I am currently 6 weeks pregnant and I did 4 hpt they were al (+) but when I went to the Doctor, the urine test they did was (-) !!! of course I freaked out but after 3 quantitative blood test to confirmed the pregnancy and to make sure my HCG levels were raising and an ultrasound at 5 weeks were they were able to find the gestagional sac and the yolk sac, everything is going fine so far THANKS GOD!!! So The best thing you can do for you and your peace of mind, is go to the Doctor and have him do you a blood test, letting him know you already had a couple of positive test!! GOOD LUCK and HOPE you get the answers you are praying for!!

As the test directions state a pos is a pos so congrats I think you may be doing a bit of ''overtesting'' I did it too all these brands have different percentages and sensitivities so that probably explains the losing ur mind differences in results I think all women are different as I am known as a poor producer of hcg in this pregnancy I tested negative even by blood ''qualitive'' u seem to want this so assume you are expecting and stop stressing get in to the doc soon and get the levels tested stopstressing its bad for baby CONGRATS!!!

Hope this helps..... a fertility specialist once told me that 9 out of 10 women are in fact pregnant but never ever know it cuz' they get their period. The EXACT same thing happened to me 3 months ago and I flipped out then told everyone and sure as ever I got my period about a week later.... my test lines were very faint also!!! I also took one after the other so don't feel bad. But like I said, they say almost all women (not using birth control) are indeed pregnant.

IF you are using different brands...then yes - the sensitivity is different. When testing before your period is due...usually the results are faint for a positive...it will get darker. But any line, even a faint one is a positive. You can go ahead and call the OB and they can bring you in to confirm the +. If you don't have insurance - then most health departments offer the service low costs and then you can use that test to help you apply for maternity medicaid if needed.

A good friend of mine took 2 test and they both were positive but very very faint, she took another one and it said negitive, she went to the doctor and he did the test and said Yes she was positive. You are pregnant, I think that there is probably just a drop in the hcg level, you wouldn't of gotten more then one positive if you aren't pregnant.

You might be, wait until the day your period would be due, and re-test. I had that happen with my oldest daughter. The 2nd (test)line was very faint. Went to the doctor, took one of their tests and yep, I was pregnant. That baby is now 5 yrs. old. Good luck and best wishes!!!

The only thing a pregnancy test does is test for HCG levels...and those are present ONLY if you are pregnant. I would say congrats to you. Make a doctor appt. for a blood test to make sure and you don't say what time of day you're testing (are you using first morning urine?).

Congrats.. I think you are prego.... Wait until you actually miss your period, then make a doctors appointment.... Start taking prenantals too... There are very few false positives, however there have been known to be numerous false negatives.... So I do believe you are going to be a mommy!!!! Woo Hoo!!!
