My PC didnt turn on one day. The fan spins for a second, the light on the Mobo stays on so does the case power light but thats it. Dead, no hard drive spins etc and it does not beep, it dont even get that far.

I went out and got a new Mobo and 500w power supply. I connected it up and....

Still exactly the same problem. I appreciate it could be processor but its not likely and even if it was the processor, it wouldnt have a chance to heat up within half a second and cause power failure.

Does anyone know what it could be? Before i go out and spend money i dont have on a new system :(. I mean, could it be as basic as the power switch being faulty?

I really need someones help!

Thanks,

It does sound like a power supply if it doesn't do anything and you don't get any POST beep codes.

You may want to try this:
If your heatsink/fan has a short, it could be shutting down the system before it even attempts to boot. There are mobo's that have automatic CPU protection built in; borrow a heatsink/fan from someone (doesn't matter what form factor or socket it is designed for-you are only using it for a test); plug it in to your mobo IN PLACE of your's. If, after starting it up, it begins to go into the boot sequence, you will have found your problem. I would say to simply disconnect the heatsink/fan, but too many mobo's will not let the system boot without one. (You may want to try it anyhow.)

Try hooking up ONLY 5 items - video, memory, mobo, keyboard and psu and see if you can get into the bios. If not, then.......

Since your psu an mobo are different and you have the same problem as before, rule them out.

Which leaves memory, video and keyboard. Swap them all. If that does not work then it is the cpu. As you said, it is not likely to be the cpu, which is why its best to rule out everything else first.

i know you replaced the mobo, but double check the heat sink. A lot of times those cheap plastic clips break, and the heatsink gets loose, resulting in the comp shutting down after seconds of booting up

Please before going out to purchase anything i would suggest if possible for you to check if the PSU is producing the correct voltage (on all of its power connectors)check each connection between the PSU and the system (motherboard, drivers, power switch, etc) i am confident you would be able to detect the problem your PC is having
