I know prices vary in different locations. In my area $100,000 could probably get you a new kitchen and perhaps a garage. That would be my choice.

What wuld you get done to your house, if you were given $100,000 to improve it. I'm interested in the choices you would make plus ... wondering how much work you could get done for that price.

There is so much I could do with $100,000. I would get new windows to save energy (est.$7,000). New flooring throughout the house ($15,000) Plant a lot of trees ($2000) New garage opener($300) Remodel our kitchen(???Maybe $30,000) Put in a 2 fireplaces, or pellet stoves ($5000) Outside improvments like staining our cement & putting in more flower beds, & redoing the existing ones. We could get a lot done with that kind of money. Wouldn't it be fun.

If given that ammount, my first step would be to fix anything broken. My next step would be to concentrate on what upgrades I can afford to make that would generate the best return if I decided to sell. Good resale fixes are upgrades in the Kitchen, bathrooms, and flooring. And, if you have any carpentry, electrical, masonry, plumbing, framing skills, you could save lots of cash by doing the majority of work yourself. Adding or enlarging rooms is always a plus, however, the down side is that it also increases your homeowners insurance and taxs. But, since I live on the coast of Florida, i'd definately install a home generator, upgrade my HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) system, and fortify the structure because of hurricanes. You'd be surprise how far you can go with $100,000

I would have to pay off my house in Indiana! Well, if i were just going to improve i would have to add one more bedroom. Since we have five kids and only a five bedroom house. I'd love a deck and to get rid of my 1980's kitchen cabinets. But, I'm really not sure about costs on home improvements. I was told I could add a bedroom for about 12,000. We already turned our garage into 2 bedrooms.

My house is only a year old, but I would put better cabinetry in the kitchen and bathrooms, open up my kitchen and dining room walls so they'd flow better, buy a butcher-block table to go in the middle of the kitchen (kinda like on the Golden Girls), lay down hardwood in the living room, and put tile in the kitchen, dining room and bathrooms (just have linoleum now). If there was anything left over, I'd redo the front and back decks and make them bigger.

I would remodel the kitchen and bathrooms, get new siding and windows and an addition if money allowed. These are the things that add the most value to a home.

I would buy new furniture for all the rooms! I rent an apartment, so there's only so much I'm allowed to do to alter the interior. But I can buy furniture! And with the money left over, I would buy a Pontiac hard top convertible! Ooh, sexy!

If I were given $100,000 I would buy a NEW home. Mine is not worth anywhere near that much! Don't get me wrong, I love my home. But, with a growing family, it's just not enough.
