Grasses are green due to the presence of a pigment called chlorophyll in their cells.

Chlorophyll helps the grass combine Carbon di oxide from air and water and minerals from ground to produce food for them in the presence of sunlights. Not all plants have green pigments in their stem. They have alternate ways of finding food. There are carnivorous plants which set traps for insects and feed on them.

`coz the chlorophyll in the thylakoid of the leaf helps to split water from H2O and makes it Hydrogen and Hydroxly ions and helps prepare food. As the colour of the chlorophyll is green, grass too is green.
This process is called as Photosynthesis.
