This does sound disturbing.
I would go with a big sign saying "I'm Only Here for Extra Credit from Professor ____ at _____ University." All he said was that you have to attend, yes?
Betcha the press would love that shot.

I think the key point that everyone is missing here is that Mizzou is a publicly funded university, meaning tax dollars are used to fund the school and pay professors' salaries. Any university that uses public money should be apolitical. This professor clearly is not. He should be admonished; and if he persists in this behavior he should be fired. Now, if he offered extra credit to students that attended either anti-war and pro-war demonstrations in the interest of furthering political debate that would be fine.

Surprised? People that live in Ivory Towers live in a detached fantasy land(College Prof.s). They fail to comprehend reality and things like wars! They believe that just because they can behave rationally and think their way through times of stress-Should I have Brie with dinner or Goat's cheese? Oh such a hard choice-That everybody else is able to do the same!
Suffer from Poverty-Uh Uh
Battle with anybody for a place to sleep-Nope
Have anyone try to carve their heart out because they have a little food-Never!
The realities of the world and some other people's lives is beyond their abilities!
So they protest what they do not understand!-It makes them have to come closer to opening their Liberal Minds if they had to accept Realities!
As far as going to the protest-your presence is a sign of Support!
Definitely go to the local RNC and Paper! Dean Etc.-He is definitely abusing his Authority and you Paid him to be teaching you that day, not using you!

Well I suppose you could complain to the chair of the department or the dean that you find it offensive.
But at most they only thing you could suggest is that the same option be given for a pro-America rally.
I don't really see him being fired, and there is no strong case for a law suit. I work at a college and trust me Professors have EXTREMELY high levels of freedom in how they teach their classes. I have seen professors with crazy policies but as long as they are fair with their grading they have free reign.

An anti war protest is not a anti-American protest. Are you supposed to listen and form your own opinion? Are you supposed to report on the protest? Do what with it once you are done. If nothing then perhaps you are right and it might be wrong. If you had an assignment appropriate for the protest then no as it is a learning experience.

Ive heard of this kind of thing before.
I would ask if the Prof if hes doesn't like the American Governments way of doing thing, then why is he emulating America by forcing and or bribing his student. Isn't he acting just like the government?

I second Bill's suggestion! Guessing your professor was a Vietnam War protestor and he wants to give you the same experience? Definitely don't do something that goes against your beliefs...but again, Bill had a great suggestion!

I think you should talk to someone about that, preferably a supervisor. This has been happening increasingly often, and schools haven't been doing as much about it as they could. Protest or something.
Also, high five for perfect spelling and grammar, which is another thing that doesn't happen as often as it should.

That's really unethical. Maybe you can talk to the department head. If that doesn't work, go to the dean. You can call the local news to & tell them about it. They like giving stuff like that media coverage.
