Ok, here is my delima. We are limiting our birthday spending this year to $50 per child, including the gift. We normally spend 4 or 5 times that, but this year we are donating to Jordan Ranch, so...Help!! If you can.

Ok, let me clarify, you all have been awsome with your answers. I did not ask correctly. I will be spending $50 on the entire party and gift. TOTAL. Not per child in attendance. Sorry for the confusion. After age 10, the kids that come to our parties no longer get Goodie bags, they come for the entertainment.

Make it a pot luck. Have everyone bring something to share. I wouldn't mind that at all. Tell them to limit the money they spend on a gift, and bring something to eat/drink instead. Otherwise, your budget won't last. This way, you can buy a gift and have a party. Is it polite to ask them? Sure it is. Most of us love to share with others.

Well, if you only have 50 bucks, then 30 teens is a little excessive for a birthday party.

But I do have an idea.

First of all, explain to your child (they are old enough, they will understand) that money is tight this year and they will only be able to have one; the party or the gift. If you don't want to do this, then just make it a future gift, like camp this summer, or make it a personal gift, like homemade coupons for not having to do a certain chore etc.

If they chose the gift, God knows what you buy a teenager for 50 bucks, but if you shop around and look at the classifieds in the newspaper, I'm sure you will find something.

If they want the party then this is easy...have a bbq in the park! Serve hot dogs and chips and soda and cake and ice cream...that should end up around fifty dollars if you spend your money right! You can burn mix cds and play music...the kids will love it.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

Here you go. Bone fire. you will need wood, (steal the stuff, you are on a budget) Songs, (you can find a boom box, somebody you know has one) stuff for smoors for 30 people, about $30.00. Drinks for 30 kids, about (get the store brand sodas) $10.00. and chips $10.00.
Everybody will have fun singing and dancing and talking near the fire, they will have stuff, mostly desserts to eat with the smoores. It could be a fun night and not that expensive at all. Good luck.
