i just got my fist job working at this breakfast/cafe place. i started adn worked for about three weeks. then for christmas my parents took us to Florida for 2 weeks. i told my boss that i was going to have to leave for 2 weesk and he said it was alright.

the thing is because i just started working i didnt have any official work hours so the manager just called me when i needed to go in. when i got back from florida i called my manager and he told me he'd let me know when to come in. its been almost 1 1/2 weeks now and still no call. since i dont have any hours i have no idea if i am supposed to be going in or if they have just let me go.

i know its partly my fault for having to leave for 2 weeks, but if they are going to let me go they can atleast tell me, not leave me hanging. what should i do??

Look for another job. They are giving you the kind way out by not saying "You're fired!".

That is not uncommon in the restaurant business, and is not necessarily because of your vacation.

Restaurants are notorious for cutting your hours, sending you home early, etc. based on how busy they are. They haven't guaranteed you any set hours, and they're not going to. You might earn at some point if you continue to work there, but it's never going to be a formal arrangement.

To get the best schedule possible (hours that you want to work, most lucrative hours, time off when you need it, etc.) try the following:

1) Call every day that you're available to work and ask if they need you to come in that day. You worked for the guy for 3 weeks then went away, and you've called him once. You're not going to be his first choice when there's money to be made, especially if there are adults raising families who didn't take a vacation competing for the shifts. It's not discrimination---it's knowing who NEEDS the job, and is therefore more likely to show up and put in a great effort.

2) Try to be available to cover if someone calls in sick, and let them know that you'll try to be available. That means if you have plans to go to the movies with your friends, you cancel on your friends and go to work. A doctor's appt or school is a different matter.

3) When you're scheduled, show up on time, every time, and ready to work. If you wear a uniform, be there and have your uniform on down to the hairnet and apron 5 minutes BEFORE you're scheduled to arrive.

4) If you're ever sick, get a doctor's note, even if they don't ask for one.

Working in a restaurant is hard work, but you really can make a lot of money. Anybody CAN do it, but it can be hard for managers to find people who WILL. Many of the people who work in restaurants think of it as a crappy job, so it's a self-fulfilling prophecy---they'll blow off work because they're tired or have something better to do, or a hangover, or they didn't wash the uniform because they didn't feel like it so they're not ready to go---and it's a crappy job so who cares, right?

But if you CARE, and you show that you're responsible and ready, willing and able to work when you're needed, you'll get the best shifts and make the best money. You're just going to have to prove yourself first, and that takes time.

ok well they arent really treating you like **** as you so say in the description but you should have told them you would like it written down on the regular schedule so you know when your working. You also should call them and ask when your working next and also ask if your still employed there. If they said it was ok that you left for 2 weeks then let it go. You need to show them that you want to work there.

yea start looking for a new job.

call your boss and ask him if you are still an employee... if he says no he must provide you with a reason it cannot be that u went on vacation either he accepted it..

It sounds like he used you for what he needed, show up and talk to him in person or something, if he treats u like ****,, then treat him like hot ****.

You should confront your employer if possible and ask him as plainly as possible if you have been fired or not. His response shoud be enough answer for you.
