For an art class I must produce 12 pieces to be graded. All of these 12 pieces must have a common subject matter and concentrate on the same idea. I started painting scenes from New York City... but it's turned out to take a long time. If any one has ideas for a concentration that isn't boring and doesn't take too long to paint or draw, i would really appreciate it. Thanks!

Cats are easy. They are easily outlined while still having interesting shapes as they stretch, sleep or are at play.

Oh, the joys of an AP portfolio :P

NYC is a wonderful concentration. Don't just focus on the obvious, though--dig deeper into the grittier sections or the people or the weather or something. Plus, you can always do collages (I assume you're doing a drawing portfolio) or use pastels, chalk, crayons even.

Be creative and good luck :D

i like the cat idea...

but since you've already started with the NYC theme, why don't you just try to elaborate on that? instead of showing full scenes, just zoom in and focus on a particular section. for example, you could just paint the top section of the empire state building... or the face of the statue of liberty.. or the lighted part of a taxi cab.. it's less work than doing a full scene.

i did some google image searches for examples. look at my sources. =)

Find a common object or symbol of some importance to you and do 12 different treatments on it. You can work the borders, change the colors, crop it, minimize it and try to make new marks. There are hundreds of things you can do.
