It is not a sterling silver or real silver ring

Same thing happened to my ring and I know it was real silver because I bought it myself. I was washing some delicates in the sink and put bleach in the water. The bleach turned my ring black.

I took the stuff my mom uses to polish the silverwear and rub it all over the ring then buffed it with a dry cloth. The black came off on the rag and my ring was good as new

It's either tarnish or it's not real silver. Buy a silver cleaner at the jewelty counter of your favorite store....(and at WalMart is't like $2.50) and follow the directions. If the black does not come off, your rings are most likely not real silver (and if they are, they're probably ruined). It's best to just throw them out and buy new, real silver ones.

I buy some "junk jewelry" but I have to have real silver when it comes to silver rings. They seem to turn easier and quicker since they're on your finger all day rubbing on the skin....and rubbing that fake silver right off!!

My swimming pool caused my real 925 sterling silver to turn dark. I used a silver cleaner then scrubbed using dawn liquid then used the cleaning cloth and it was restored good as new. Chemical imblance in the pool caused the reaction. I had been treating an algae and had the chemicals a little askew. This happens to me at the first of the pool season most every year, till I get the chemical balance correct in the pool, sometimes i just forget to remove my jewlery, lot less hassle if i just remember to remove the jewlery.

If you got in a hot tub, the chlorine actually stripped the silver off your rings. Sometimes pools will do it too. Be real careful, I lost some very nice silver that way :(

Did you put your hands in bleach water???

Bleach will make silver turn black as will sulphur water. I've ruined more jewlery that way. A slightly acidic Jewelery cleaner will take care of the black but don't leave it in the cleaner too long or it will eat the finish off your ring.

My daughters stainless steel rings turned black in an over chlorinated pool. I tried everything. Jewelry cleaner, dish soap, lemon juice, etc.. I had just about given up. As a last ditch, I tried Magic eraser pads. I almost flipped out when it took off the tarnish in seconds. No I am not a paid advertiser, but hell if I wouldn t be after that.

I don't know the full chemical explanation, but I believe silver oxidises on contact with air. So its not a metal you can wear daily. When you keep it away, wrap it in tissue and then keep it in a box....basically minimise its exposure to air as far as possible. The blackened silver can be restored I think....if you take it to a competent jeweller, but it'll cost you. Hope it works out though....I love silver jewellery.

I have sterling silver rings that have turned darker...not black, though. It's called tarnish. You can get a type of cloth that you just rub on the jewelry and it'll remove the tarnish.

They weren't silver mate. They're black plastic and they were cloured in with one of those silver pens you get in craft shops where you have to push the nib in all the time. Hate those. You were robbed. It happens to me all the time. Just put it down to experience. Don't buy jewellery in the street. You never know what you might be buying. Just say No !!!
