I can see where you would get confused -- the English language tends to throw a few curve balls. And the old timers may have pronounced it "rooves" which doesn't help you any. It's roofs. But if it's any consolation, Googling "rooves" returns 153,000 responses.

Its always been roofs; the pronunciation often sounds like rooves.

theres never been a written word rooves, its always been pronounced rooves but written roofs. i dont know who taught you that rooves was a proper word but if they were a teacher i think i just found out why this country is going to the dogs...that is if your english of course.

There's no such word as 'rooves'. Roofs is correct. You might pronounce it as 'rooves' but it's spelled with the 'f'.
