yes that trick does work since the tones are saved on the phone/externan memory. not on the sim card.

I know you cannot do this with Cingular. You can not save your ring tones to your SIM card. Sim cards usually can only hold phone settings and phonebook entries. But not things like Texts, Pictures, Games or Tones. The reason being is they are copyrighted and what you are doing is basically the same as downloading an mp3 free from the internet. So I cannot speak for other companies but Cingulare, you cant.

No, T-mobile or Cingular are the only ones who use SIM cards because they use GSM technology. Phones are interchangeable with these 2 carriers but u will still get charged if you do this. If you put your SIM in his phone, you can download ringtones or whatever but you will still be charged 9.99.

Yes, t-mobile does too because they are my provider. Whatever features you buy are carried along wherever your sim card goes although you have to make sure that the phone that you are gonna put it in is capable of such features. It can only be done with phones that are using the same provider and that use sim cards.
