I was told by the Doc's office there would only be a 50 dollar copay per visit, and now my insurance company says I will be responsible for thousands that they are not paying.

They sent the checks for their portion of the payment to me. If I am already going to be thousands in the hole, shouldn't I just keep those checks or can a person REALLY go to jail for that.

If it is just a collections thing, I will already have that when I can't pay my portion.

What do you thinnk?

The checks are issued in my name.

Please only answer if you REALLY know, not just a personal opinion.

If the checks are made out to you..then I see know reason why you can't keep them. However, if they are made out to the Dr. then you better send them on in. You cannot go to jail for unpaid medical bills but they will go on your credit & lower your score. However, in all reality..when I went to buy my first house I had a few medical bills show up on my credit & the mortgage broker told me that they don't really consider unpaid medical bills a big deal. Hope this helps!

its called theft and insurance fraud. The doctor billed the insurance company a lot more than what you owe, and those checks cover what the insurance company pays for. based on your policy you have to pay the difference. At some point if the doctor doesn't get paid by the insurance company he is going to bill you for the full amount, so then you will have to give up the money they gave you anyway as well as have to deal with the crime you committed.

Call the insurance company and find out what the checks are for. You are just screwing the doctor, not the insurance company.

I think that you are playing a silly game and you know that you are wrong and need to let the insurance company know that they need to send the checks to the doctors office and not you Yes you really could go to jail and might have to start rubbing uglies with another woman committing yet another sin you should really get this stuff straighten out before you get yourself in trouble for a little money and lose your health care. THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU ARE DOING!

If you can cash those checks you should,

You would be cashing a check that is not intended for you...

If your insurance should be paying your expenses you need to fight for that, you need to speak to someone and get it straightened out.

If anything you shouldn't give the doctor those checks and let your insurance know that they need to pay him in full :D

If you have to ask about legality / morality of an issue, it usually means it's not a good idea. Don't do it.
