The Quebec Nordiques. The team owner had to sell the team after a financial loss caused by the '94-'95 NHL lockout. They were moved to Colorado and began the '95 season as the Colorado Avalanche.

Quebec Nordiques (1972-1978) WHA, (1979-1995) NHL, Colorado Avalanche (1995-Present) plus Two Stanley Cup Titles 1996, 2001, Zero before coming to Colorado, how about that.

They were The Quebec Nordiques. The Nordiques played in the W.H.A from 1972 until I believe 1979. In '79 they joined the NHL and had a huge rivalrie with the Montreal Canadiens. In 1995 the Nordiques were moved and ended up in Denver where they were called the Colorado Avalanche.

They were the Quebec Nordiques. The funny thing is, the very first year the team moved to Colorado, they won the Stanley Cup. Some fans in Quebec are bitter that the team left when it did because they figure the cup would have been in Quebec. In reality, had the team stayed in Quebec, Patrick Roy would never have been traded there and the Nords probably would have not gone far in the playoffs.

The Quebec Nordiques and when they went to Colorado the won the Stanley Cup there first year.
