To impress people. To make people think that I am more then I am. I have no self esteem at all. I hate my self and cannot think for a second why other people would want to be around me. But maybe if I can impress them they would like me. I know it is crap. I know that it is as stupid as it could be. But I still do it. I do it much less, and oddly enough people like me more when I am honest. But my thick skull still has a problem understanding that.

Scared to show the real them b/c they think u treat them like crap if u knew the real them. In high school I lied that I hated school so much I wasn't willing to pay for my own gas to fill up my car to get there. When really I just didn't have my license at the time and was afraid that everyone would gossip behind by back calling me stupid.
Yes I did hate school and still hate the place. Despite my little lie I still feel that the jerks over there treated me like crap.

For the same reason people lie for any reason. They lack morals and ethics OR they have a pathological illness. I, unfortunately know way too many people from both categories.

Curious what situation you are thinking of that might call for it ?

I'm a novelist. Sometimes I'll try out things I think a character might say in a situation where it doesn't matter. Like when the person behind you in line at the store starts a random conversation. It's research.

Cos people are afraid from losing something or disapointing someone or whatever..fear always pushes u to lie.

For some, it is an effort to boost a poor self-image. For others, it is to consolidate power and prestige. For still others, it is a pathological thing - they're sick.

Some people can't help themselves. It's a real problem for some. I feel bad for those people.

If they are not lying for any personal gain or to protect someone, then they are just a pathological liar.

Some people are compulsive liars. I guess they need extra attention that their extravagant lies fool them into believing they get.
