My 6 month old likes to have a paci to go to sleep, but it's becoming a real pain because she takes it out of her mouth and then cries because she can't get it back in again. it's making it real hard to get her to sleep for naps. Plus, they get lost everywhere and I'm tired of buying them. How do I do away with these things?

i have 4 children.. it normally takes about 2 or 3 days to get rid of the passie or bottle.. try substituting it with a blanket or a soft stuff animal. start giving it to her in the day then day nap time then night. i also used those clips for the passies
with the bottle i found some great cups at walmart. one thing about the bottle... keep up with how much they are drinking. you have a little while on that one though.
good luck!!

You throw them out and let her cry. I did this when my son was 2 1/2 months as I was tired of getting up 6 times a night to give the paci back, not to mention naps. It will be painful at the time, she might even cry for a couple hours, but it will NOT hurt her and it WILL work. Each time she will cry for a little less time until within a week she is paci-free.

well i know these are hard things to deal with, you know how hard it is for us adults to quit a habit, it's the same for the babies.
I didn't have to deal with the paci, my kids thank god didn't really take up the paci even though i tried when they were born.
but i can try to suggest some things that might help that helped me with other things.
try it gradually doing it all at once will drive you and baby crazy, have you tried getting baby to sleep with a bottle at nap time or bed time maybe before bed you could give baby a nice warm bath, rub some lotion on, get baby relaxed, and give a bottle hopefully baby will drift off to sleep with a bottle. start off by doing it at bed time where you are able to give a bath and get her ready for bed , unless you want try that at nap time during the day.
that way baby can have a paci during the nap in the day and at night she will drift off after a bath, then maybe she will forget about a paci when she naps during the day.

Good Luck I hope this really helps you !!!!

As you lose them don't buy anymore. We threw the last one we had away. By the time she turned 1 she didn't have a paci. She cried a couple days at bedtime but then she was fine.

I dont suggest you get rid of it before she is ready because she may take up sucking her thumb in place of it. And prolonged thumb sucking can cause jaw malformation. Your child when ready will give it up on her own, most do. My son is 8 months and VERY rare will even accept his where as before he wanted it all the time. Babies have a natural instinct to suck let her do what comes natural and soothing to her. There are also "clips" that are totally safe you can buy for 2 bucks at walmart that clips onto her shirt and holds the pacifier. As she gets older she will be able to put it back into her mouth. I think parents at times {not saying you} want to rush their child to stop doing or start doing something before their little brains are ready for it. Give her a few more months she'll stop on her own

Cut a tiny hole in the end of one one day. A week later snip off a bit more, then a bit more till baby gives up on it.

This can be a lot less fuss than cold turkey on the paci.
