Links I cannot give - cept to suggest doing google "Victorian Fashion" or 'Industrial Revolution Fashion"

Here are some reasons for fashion changes:
War, first and second (1914 and 1940).
In war the women had to start going to work to make stuff that the men could no longer do - they were all overseas fighting. It is hard to work in a factory wearing embroidered and bulky dresses.

Fabric for clothes improved and synthetics were invented. Cheaper to have many dresses now

Cars were invented. It is hard to get in and out of a carriage (remember those Victorian movies?) with all those bustles and fancy long skirts. . .so when cars were used, the clothing got more 'sensible'. Ditto bicycles.
