How real are reality shows? Like "The Apprentice" for example.?

Are people chosen that match certain criteria to create a certain friction and/or chemistry? Are some people asked to act in a certain way?

There is real footage and cheap to make. Everything lies in the editing to engage the audience.

well it is real for the reason that everyday types are on the show. the producers need drama and conflict on the shows, so yes they do look for certain types to make the show exciting. no one would watch the apprentice if it was all the same type of boring person. by having a mix of different personalities you get conflict which creates buzz for the show.

there are actually story development people on reality series. they make sure the fights and heated moments are featured.

I think they do pick people to play off of each other. Or else with "a story" This goes for game shows too for example Deal or no Deal is coming to Canada for 5 episodes and from what they said on Etalk (entertainment talk show)they picked a lot of people with strange jobs. Like whale watcher and lobster fisherman too bad really as it doesn't show an accurate picture of Canadians. Look at the Survivor casting the year they asked the girl why she wasn't a stripped down wild woman like on her audition tape.

I think so. The chemistry between these folks are so close from season to season. Or like being a contestent on Deal or no Deal. If I was on there and there was an offer for say 50,000$....I would say "Deal" and walk out. There looking for thrill seekers and greedy folks. Yeah, there's gotta be some criteria for each show for sure.
