This may sound a bit convoluted, but my answer is that we fool ourselves into believing that we can fool ourselves.
In other words we try to do it, and we expect that we can succeed at it, but in the end....

Oh my, people do this all the time. What about people who believe in astrology? With all the obvious evidence everywhere refuting it people still decide to believe in it. They simply ignore the truth. That's how you fool yourself. You look at the truth, you say "it isn't so," and you refuse to think about it.
I had a brother who was a compulsive liar. He lied about everything, the time of day, the color of his walls, what he had for breakfast. He actually believed a lot of the BS he made up! One day he lied to the wrong person and was gunned down in Miami.

Yes I have done it before. I work at the same place everyday & do the same thing almost everyday and sometimes I can't even remember how to do my job. I would for example ask a question but I would know the answer to it and I would be feel so dumb.. it's a brain fart or something..or maybe trying to find something and it be there but when you looked the first time it wasn't there...or mislooking numbers or words...or even the dates...or months..I do it all the time..maybe I am just a blonde..J.k

The fact that we are able to live in this world and ignore the obvious injustice and evil other people do is fooling ourselves... BIG TIME

i once rehearsed a story about how a car accident happened in high school to the point that I really thought it was not my fault...I remember the fake story before I remember how it really happened when I think about it now.
oh, and we often tell ourselves "oh, I'll just have a taste." and we wind up eating the whole thing.
do these things count as fooling ourselves?

It's definitely possible, but for me what that really means is that Satan is trying to fool me by using my own voice. I just read something this morning about that actually...
