I have lived in the city before. Couple things I found nice. Being able to go to the store in the day, but the night too.
The fantastic parks, even dog parks are in the city. The art galleries. I sure miss those!
The plays, music in the streets. First time I ever seen someone play there music on a street corner, was real neat!
People in general were pleasant, looked out for each other more then I ever thought they would. There is public transportation everywhere, so no need to take the car out. It was noise but depending on the building you live in most of it is only when you open the door and go outside can one hear everything real well.
People in general mind there own business.
I will take rural life any day, but the city did have its good points. No place for our horses in the city though lol!

Living in "the city" -- you are not a slave to your car, the TV, the internet and malls/min-malls. You can meet many people just like you, or many that are thoroughly different. There are more options for just about anything.. but, you generally sacrifice space (and can incur most cost). The disadvantages are less than most of these people are listing -- because they are speaking about what they fear, or garner from media accounts, bigotry more than actual experience. I'm sitting in TriBeCa right now.

disadvantages; cities are very busy with tons and tons of people which make it difficult for traveling and such. Not enough room, no trees, no hiking trails, and even homes are too close together which means not much privacy in your home or yard. The advantages of being in a city, is that you are closer to shops, work, etc......so you do not have to travel to far to get to where you wish to go. Everything is close to you. I grew up in a city when I was younger, and moved to a beautiful state in the country. I love the peace and quiet, many things to do and explore. And having a house not close to another house, i find lots of privacy in my yard as well as my home.
