My boyfriend bought me an engagment ring a year ago. He told me it was an engagment ring but never asked me to marry him. Should I push him to set a date? What should I do?

Don't pressure him into anything. He might still be trying to decide if he's ready for marriage and that kind of commitment. Only he can answer why he hasn't asked you to marry him. If you pressure him into setting a date, he might change his mind. Talk to him without making him think that you're pressuring him. Ask his opinion about marriage. you could get something from walmart or sam's club. they would have something like a promise ring that could be used as an engagement ring. Also Jared's has a few promise rings that I wouldn't mind having as an engagement ring. Think outside the box. Cubic Zirconia can be very pretty too and costs WAY less than a diamond. And it lasts just as long. It also is made flawless, where an inexpensive diamond will have big flaws in it that you will be able to see.

You've been together four years, and have two children. Make an appointment down at the court house, and get married, for Heaven's sake. You have allowed his childish behavior for all these years. Why would he be in any hurry to set a date, when he is already getting what he wants? The poster who said don't push him, he's not ready for a commitment, has got it all wrong. When a guy says he is not ready for a commitment, that is not your signal to roll over and make babies with him! Now that children are involved, you both need to grow up, and take responsibility for what you have done.

When they put the engagement ring on they are meant to propose! Just ask him if you are engaged - not all men know what they are meant to do and as for pushing for a date why can't you enjoy being engaged before rushing into marriage - it has only been one year

I say Sh*t or get off the pot. Your not engaged if he hasn't asked you yet. So, no need to set a date. Find out what gives and get an answer out of him. Maybe he's waiting for the perfect moment. Good luck!

The whole idea is that you are engaged to be married so yes, I would ask him when he thinks you will be getting married.

just ask him what his plans are in the future concerning you two. you have the ring, now what about a date. say that you know it means you will get married one day but you would kind of like to know how long . maybe you'd like to start making plans, being that this could take up to a year, depends on how big you plan.

Ask him if giving you a ring means he wants to get married to you, some guys just give rings becuase we expect them too eventually. If he says yes he means to marry you discuss a date.
