In front of my bathrub, the paint on the wood molding is really starting to chip off and it looks awful. I've tried just simply repainting, but it chips off soon. The problem is we bathe our toddlers in it, and they're extra spashy in the tub, so it gets wet often.

Any ideas on what I can do to paint this molding, but have the paint actually stay? (without having to buy new paint). Maybe some primers or protectants I can apply?

i would suggest waterproofing it first, with a sealant, then paint it.

You're using the wrong kind of paint my dear. Sand surface clean, wipe with paint thinner, paint with oil based trim paint. Do not get this on you're clothes, it won't come out. Allow paint to dry or cure for a least 3 days prior to using the shower or tub

best to sand the surface so it is clean and smooth, then use a sealant to seal the surface (you can get primers that are sealants also), then make sure you are painint with a paint appropriate for the type of surface. if you can get one designed for bathrooms it will be water resistant and more hardy.

If it's white molding, you can replace it with plastic molding that is coloured white... go to home depot... no painting, no peeling, no problem...
