Pretty much the same reason men have two testicles!! Most organs in our body come in pairs: eyes, ears, kidneys, breasts,...etc. This way they can function if one is weak, sick or even lost completely.

Hey nikkers your so funny

i agree with nikkers

Actually during pregnency, when the foetus is transforming into a baby boy the organs which are suppose to develope into overies form testicles and descend down and come out into the sack you call scortum.
but if the baby is a female it stays inside and transform into ovaries and which is our seminal vesicles is what their fellopean tubes are. For them the sack which are suppose to become the testicles form a bulging outer lips of the vulva (labia majora)

Its like a foetus transforms into two different tpyes depending upon the types and the organs transform accordingly of cromosomes it has (xx or xy).

If they had just one big one, where do you suggest they put it. Remember the spinal column takes up a large part of the center of the body. Their uterus is in the center, but it is very flexible. ovaries are different and can be injured easily like testicles. so they are tucked into a safe place.

One side of us is just like the other, except approx. down the middle. Example one nose, one mouth, one heart, etc. On opposite sides, 2 eyes, 2 lungs, 2 kidneys, 2 legs, etc. It's like having a spare of most everything we need to get along well.
