I would amend Milkbone's post by saying that when you scratch a homophobe, not only will you get a racist, but a misogynist as well. It's amazing how the three go hand in hand. Look at the Christian Fundies out there. They're homophobic to the core, trash Muslims every chance they get, and think feminism is the root cause of why the world is so screwed up from their perspective. I think it's rather self-righteous (and dangerous) of them to preach against the Taliban when they also ultimately want the complete disappearance of the separation between church and state.

Any derogatory remark is insulting to any community. It is unnecessary hate and is considered to be more punishable in the court of law. Why would a straight person have fear of gay people anyways, or use the word homophobic instead of hateful.

Yes, of course.
Although there is a positive side to people making prejudice comments... It lets me know right away that I don't want to be near them!

Why should they're be any difference at all? Personally, I don't think they're should be laws based on the sexual preference, color of skin, or gender. If someone is murdered, does it make it any worse of a situation because the person was killed because he was white than if they person was killed because he slept with a guys wife? No, the bottom line is someones dead and it doesn't mean squat about anything else. PERIOD.
