I guess I am a moderate! I liked this little test.

To Proud American-
No offense taken. I actually run a magazine with the main goal of eliminating the bipartisanship in the US right now. Technically, that doesn't mean I know anything at all about politics or moderation. I was just wondering if there was one or two issues that an overwhelming majority agreed on, regardless of political affiliation, so maybe we could work to push it.

Thanks for your input everyone!

Okay. I'm not officially affiliated with either party. I tend to identify more with the Republicans, but it's about a 51-49 split.
I do consider myself to be moderate:

I don't believe abortion should be illegalized outright. I do, however, believe it should be restricted, and that the need for it is what should be targeted. If there's less of a necessity on abortion, they won't be performed as often.

I don't believe that drug users should go to prison. They should receive a fine and/or drug treatment.

I believe that homosexuals should receive the same rights as anyone else, even though I disagree with the lifestyle. The only problem is, marriage is usually considered a religious institution. How can any Christian denomination reconcile marrying two members of the same sex with what the Bible says about homosexuality? I don't think they can. So either homosexuals should be offered a union that has NOTHING to do with religion but with the same rights as any heterosexual couple, or benefits for married people should be cut. The problem with the latter is that this would be encouraging people to not get married, which is also an issue. Fact is, the only way out is through civil unions.

I disagree with allowing school-sponsored prayer in the classroom. Students should be able to express their religion freely (including thanking God in speeches, and praying publicly.) however.

I also disagree with teaching creationism in the classroom. Although separation of church and state is not technically constitutional, I don't believe that teaching religious beliefs belongs in the classroom unless ALL religions are taught. As a Christian, I wouldn't want my children taught about other religions by an atheist, or by someone who believed in those faiths, simply because they could easily slant my child's view. I'll simply teach Christianity at home, and let my children make up their own minds. That's why I have so many books on religion (over a hundred, including science textbooks.).

This is just a sampling.

I am a Pro-Life Democrat

2007-01-24 02:17:34 · answer #3 · answered by Baby 3 · 1 0

I am a socially liberal and fiscally conservative Democrat.

I believe in the gay marriage, the right to choose, free and open government, the legalization of some controlled substances, stem cell research, cheaper prescription drugs, and a stark separation of church and state.

However, I am from Texas and I believe gun control is a state issue. New York may have a "gun problem," but Texas does not. So I break with the majority of the party on that issue.

I also want to see a lot of fiscal responsibility - a small national debt, decreased military spending, and social spending that rewards work and family responsibility. I don't believe in going on welfare because you have nine kids or if you are able bodied and can work. If you are mentally ill or otherwise disabled we need programs to keep you off the street.

I am a repeublican.

I side with them on may issues....I will uses the key issues....

Abortion: I feel that is is extremely wrong....and it should not be allowed to be uses as a form of birth control...and 18 year old who chooses to have sex, knows that sex=baby. They also know that birth control and condoms are not 100% affective. So they know that there is a chance. They should not be allowed to kill a unborn child for a choice the make knowing what can happen. however in the case of rape I feel it should be allowed because the women did not choose anything. I also know that abortion is legal....and the father should have a say....after all...he is half of what going on.....and at the same time if a woman can just give up a child.....and not take responsibity for it...so should a man.....

2. Gay marriage....I think that is wrong...I don't agree with it. BUt at the same time, they are not asking me.

3. I am a pro death penality guy.....and I feel that in todays courts with DNA and such, if you are found guilty of a crime that warrents the dealth penalty then you should walk straight from the court house and to the chair. And rape and child molestation should be added to the charges that you could be killed for. I also feel that the prisons are to lenant....we need chain gangs again...take away tv, radios....the only thing they should get that they don't need to live is books....allow them to get some schooling....but no tv, radios, games......

4. I was not for the war...but I don't like we should leave now.....we have to finish what we started. I like Bushes ideas for health insurance.

One thing I have noticed is that the Dems never really seem to have a plan...they talk about not liking the reps ideas but I never see any of their own....

Take social security....Bush had and idea....privitize it...give people the chance to anyways....I like that idea...make people responsible for themselves and less on the gov....the dems don't like it....yet I have not heard a play of their own....

SO conservitive on many issues...but liberal on others....and I am not a die hard conservative...I do realize that some cercumstances call for things I might not like.

I'd say you are closest to being a democrat and would not slap a "moderate" label on it because you hold one view that is almost but not quite conservative. I should point out that, while democrats don't treat welfare like it's some fat to be trimmed out of the budget, that they don't usually expand welfare--their current theory is closer to 'safety nets for workers, and care for those who can't care for themselves (elderly, children, handicapped)'. Republicans usually don't get rid of welfare either, they just whine about how much we pay for it. Neither presidential candidate supports free health care, though many democrats in congress do. On abortion--do you think that is a choice that needs to be made for everyone by the government, or do you think people should be left to make their own choice--even if that choice may be a bad or irresponsible choice? Or do you think that fetus is alive and has the same rights as any other person? There really isn't a lot of middle ground for your position on abortion. There are two views that make sense--it's a baby and deserves the same protection as any child (unless we get into some weird semi-hypothetical such as selective abortion or abortion to save the life of the mother), or it is not a baby (or we don't know whether it is or not) and that a woman's freedom to discuss her options with her doctor and deal with them however she likes is nobody else's business. Saying that a fetus is only worth saving to punish the mother for her mistakes, giving teens an immoral but real reason to cry rape when they weren't raped, or simply taking away the freedom to choose for herself away from the mother makes no sense--unless--that abortion is a life that deserves government protection. There really isn't a middle ground that makes sense.

I generally side with the Republicans but don't believe in joining either party. I don't have too many liberal views but I also don't stand behind everything the Repubs do. The Republicans that are generally in support of illegal immigration are doing it for the purpose of providing cheap labor to help certain industries and help big business and they do this at our expense. It is a fact that big business' provide they jobs for the most people and that they provide the majority of the taxes in the country but IMO that doesn't give a free pass to violate the law. This is my biggest complaint with the Republicans. The Dems push for higher taxes and more social services which promotes they attitude of entitlement that seems to be running ramped in the country today. I do not believe in handouts as a way to make the country better. I support self reliance and the benefits or consequences of ones actions.

I am a Republican but that does not mean I am unconditionally a Republican.

I believe in Pro-Choice, to a point. In the case of rape or incest. I believe that the parents of a minor have the right to be notified of an impending abortion by a minor child of theirs. I am not in favor of partial birth abortion regardless of the circumstances. If a womans life is in jeopardy and she can withstand a partial birth I have to believe she can withstand a full birth and the baby should not have the base of its skull crushed to kill it.

I have mixed emotions of the death penalty. I have yet to hear about an execution that has mde me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. On the other hand, I have never had to deal with losing a loved one by murder. If I did, I would probably want the SOB to die a slow painful death.

Gay rights, not a federal issue. Leave it up to the people in the individual states. I am not for legalizing marriage for gays or lesbians but I am in favor of civil unions.

I could go on and on but I am not going to write a book.

Now, no offense, but I have to wonder what gives you the ability to judge whether or not I have a moderate nature when it comes to politics. How do I know you really understand what you are talking about.

I am a Conservative.

I think gay marriage should be left up to the states.

I think everyone should be free to practice their religion. The constitution states that the government should not force a religion, but now it seems like the government is forcing Atheism.

I believe in welfare for the elderly and disabled, but not the lazy.

I support the death penalty, but only because we have parole. If we get rid of parole, I think we should get rid of the death penalty as well. Right now, if someone is put in prison for murder, they either get 15 years or the death penalty, we need to enforce life WITHOUT parole.

I believe George W. went into Iraq truly thinking they had WMD's, but they did not. However, the damage is done, and we need to clean up what we started.

I believe we need to reduce gas consumption, and clean up the environment, but the idea that humans are the cause of Global Warming is horse manure.

However, I could NEVER vote Democrat unless they ran a pro-life candidate.

I tend to side with Republicans...

By that definition I am a "moderate" in that I hold views that would be decribed as both conservative and liberal (in the modern sense). In reality, I am a radical libertarian that is fiscally conservative and socially liberal. I am in staunch opposition to all forms of socialism (wealth redistribution, welfare, minimum wage laws, etc.) and to intervention in personal lives (I couldn't care less what consenting adults do in private, I oppose all forms of prohibition, etc.) and I am opposed to much of the US military intervention abroad.

I tend to side with Republicans (holding my nose all the while) because the advance of socialism in our society is more pervasive and more damaging in the long run and even the poor record that Republicans have along these lines is better than the full-blown embrace of socialism espoused by the alternative.
