I have come across a major dilemma in my life. I am a devout Christian with very strict family values from New England. I have been with my fiancée now for about 2 years now. While strolling through the park last month, we came across a distant relative of mine who happened to be in town visiting, we both said “hi” to her and thought nothing of it as I thought it was just a mutual acquaintance. When we returned home my fiancée asked how I “knew the girl in the park” I stated that it was a distant cousin of mine. Then she declared that it was a cousin of hers… After doing some research through the family tree, we are indeed related. I don’t know what to do for 2 reasons… One, we are in love, and 2 well… she’s pregnant. And then I worry about the whole situation being accepted because we don’t live in the south… Please help me!!

You are going to have a retarded child. You don't have sex with relatives. END OF STORY.

I get a question like yours once a month or so, due to a related web page on my site explaining the difference btween a first cousin twice rmoved and a second cousin once removed. I did some research. This page has some answers and links for further reading:

http://www.tedpack.org/cuzdate.html

It is the only page in the world with a specific four-word phrase, down towards the bottom; the first three are "sweet and sour".

Since she is pregnant, your choices are:

1) Marry her and raise the child. Teach him/her to work hard, shoot straight, play fair, stand tall and speak the truth. This should take up 80% of your free time for the next 12 years; then it gets better, a little, except you worry more when they are off with their friends than when you are with them.

2a) Convince her to have an abortion.
2b) Convince her to put the child up for adoption.

3) Run away, leaving your cousin/girlfriend to fend for herself, alone in a harsh world; hope she will find a better man than you who will marry her and raise the child according to his lights.

Not all life's choices are easy.

I've heard of this happening before. In some states first cousins can marry legally, but I think in others its not. You should do some research on this. I hope it all works out for you. It sounds like your like your not directly related, so I hope your baby is born healthy, good luck.

HOLY ****. please don't ignore this, but I really want to be his friend... I LOVE CON ARTISTS. really, if there's any way I can contact him or if he has AIM, MSN or anything of that sort, please tell me, and I'd love to have a good talk. I am his greatest fan!! yeah i really don't believe you're 13 but still good luck, if i were a girl i'd give him hugs and kisses lol, oh yeah did i mention i love con artists? yeah but if your still 13 then that'd be a little too early for you but just remember birth control or else wouldn't turn out so good....

Due to my information cousins can marry without any problem.
I didn´t thought that there are still people who think that this is something forbidden or morally wrong...
Just go ahead with your plans, there is no law which will forbid this marriage and your church won´t do also, even the Catholics don´t do...

Don't diss the South. If you had to look it up, you probably are'nt related closely enough for there to be any legal or biological problems.

how related are you, if your like three or 4 cousins away from each other, it should be no problem but if she is related to you by an close aunt or uncle that might be a problem

Anything after 3rd cousins really doesn't matter, and it sounds like it's very distant. Let it go, and love her, and the baby.
Congrats on the babe btw. ~~~
