Most jurisdictions no longer recognize common law marriage. However, in those that do, you not only must cohabitate, but also hold yourself out to the public as being married. Merely living together does not make you married in the common law. I can think of a few reasons, among which the most important are (1) the ability to have the partner make uncontested medical/financial/legal decisions for you in an emergency, (2) possible tax advantages, and (3) spousal privilege not to testify against each other in court.

No, because Donald would divorce me the first year. That's what he did to his second wife, Marla Maples. He had her sign a prenup that she would get a paltry amount of money if they divorced within four years. He divorced her within four years. He's a jerk.
