Last night's State of the Union Address??

Question

Last night Bush mentioned "The terrorists", "The enemy" and "The Killers", however he never mentioned who these people actually are, where they are from and what we have to do to get them. Who is he talking about? Who are these terrorists? Iraq? Afghanistan? Osama? Hussein? Who? Who? WHO??

Is vague language a tactic? How does language impact a speech? "The terrorists" could mean anyone! Can someone please clarify for me!

reiteration is very important! It is important to have a clear enemy, to have a clear agenda and to have a clear strategy. Are we fighting against Iraq? Are we fighting against Afghanistan?? You can't just say muslim fascists! That is NOT a clear enemy and thus villanizes the entire Middle East subcontinent!

All I ask is he makes it clear so as not to confuse the American people- not ALL muslims are terrorists! By using vague language like "the terrorists" and "the killers" we are creating an "us" versus "them" senario!

you have the basics of it correct.

by keeping his language vague, ie "war on terror", "the enemy", and such, it allows him to keep people scared and do whatever he wants in the name of "keeping people safe"
its the same sweeping generalizations that frightened people into wanting to invade Iraq. Iraq had nothing to do with 9-11, but Bush kept mentioning them both together. he never actually said "Iraq was responsible", but the way he kept linking them in his speeches made people think he did. And when people are scared, they will let the leaders do whatever he wants in the name of "security".

Wow...thats what you talked about? staggering!!! the in user-friendly words reason you probably did not listen about Congress contained in the early Bush years is becasue it become Republican managed, now that it's not, all votes are drawing on party lines. Why can very almost the different President unite Congress and grace bipartisan recommendations. Watch lower back and pay interest very heavily because you neglected the finished speach.

What is odd to me is that the only people who changed their rating or ideas about more troops going in, were people who watched it last night.
Remember in the early days of Movies and TV, when they'd put subliminal messages behind what was being watched? Honestly, that is the only reason that I can believe that anything suggesting we continue on the current path, especially on the Bloodiest Day of all for American Service People, has got to be brainwashing........

I suppose the people murdered on 11 Sept 2001 really wanted to know exactly who their assassins were. Why don't you enlist in the Armed Forces and go see firsthand who the vague enemy is? Thought not coward. It's much easier to keep your mind closed and talk stupid about the man charged with keeping you safe--which has been totally successful so far allowing you the freedom to nit pic.

I'm just tired of listening to him talk at this point and i got tired last night of all of the clapping after every sentence or three words that came out of his mouth. I just turned it off at some point I couldn't take it any more.LOL
