The line that keeps backing up is a 10-15 foot section in the basement that opens in the middle of the floor. It's NOT the main access opening used for cleaning the lines.

The pipe is too narrow to get a snake into. Plunging doesn't always work. I'm looking for a better solution.

Half tempted to dig, remove and replace.

Ideas?

The pipe is probably 2", but the elbow isn't permitting any entry by the snake.

Yep, dig, remove and replace.
We just had that job done by a local plumber.
When it backed up again we called a National Company and found them to be what we should have called in the first place.
They would have done this work differently and more to our satisfaction. And, at a lower cost to us!
Our problem extended to the outside, 27 feet.

If this is your basement floor drain pipe; it should be a 2" pipe. This is plenty large enough to snake... if a snake won't fit, the pipe is full of something and has been reduced in inside diameter. You really need to dig it up, cut it out and replace it.
