I am trying to decide if I should get a little bigger size screen ( go to a 15.4"). Does anybody have any thoughts about this?

By the way, I am not going to take it anywhere, I just like being able to sit in my easy chair instead of a desk.

if you don't need to transport it the only real difference is going to be cost. honestly, you usually sit so close that it doesn't matter, but if you watch a lot of movies or anything you might want the bigger screen. otherwise i'd make the decision based on price.

Well I recently bought a 19" flat panel for my desktop and all I can say is I'm never going back to something smaller.

So, in response to your question, I say the issue is money.

If cost is not a concern, then I would opt for the largest screen I could afford.

I recommend you take a trip to Best Buy, or the like, and take a look at laptops with small screens. I think you end up agreeing that a 14.1" screen is simply way too small. Also, that 14.1 measurement is the diagonal measurement and not a length or width measurement.

For example: My 19" flat panel measures 19" diagonally. However it is only 12" high by 14 3/4" wide.

So if you apply those numbers to a 14.1" I think you find it pretty small.

Hope this helps.

Although I liked the idea of the size and compactability of a 14.1" inch screen, I prefer the 15.4" as I like to watch dvd's and play games and find the bigger screen better for this. Your requirements may not be same as mine though.

I've having the same quandry! Except I can't decide between 15.4' and 17'. My advice would be get that since weight is not an issue why not get the biggest you can afford if you are ever likely to play games or watch DVDs on it.

Having said that, if you're not going to take it anywhere why not get a desktop? they're much better value for money.

I'd prefer a bigger screen, if you measure it out on a bit of newspaper or something you'll get an idea of what it will be like to try to read. It depends what you want to do, for websurfing or reading docs you'll manage but for image editing the bigger the better.

get a 15.4 at least. A 17 is excellent, but the overall winner is a dell. I forget the model, but it has 20.1 inches. And, yes, it's actually a very powerful laptop.

It depends on whether you want a lighter, more portabel laptop or a bigger one that acts like a desktop replacement. 14.1" is not small on a light laptop.

If portability isn't important, bigger is better. If you want it on your lap, remember bigger is heavier. I wanted portability, so I have a 12" averatec it is only 1.3" thick and weighs about three # If you are going to have it on your lap, then you need a cooling pad with a fan, that adds weight and bulk.
