My partner and I are trying to have sex for the first time and it was unsuccessful as I find it an extremely painful experience. So I suggested he use a finger first. Even that was slightly painful but we did managed to get it in with some muscle controlling down there. Now a finger can get in quite smoothly and we'll proceed with more fingers gradually and eventually, his member. Although we're satisfied with the progress, I wonder if it is common for sex to be successful the first time?

It is far less common for it to be successful/ or not hurt really bad the first time, than it is for it to be unsuccessful. So, relax.....it's totally normal ! Just think of it, besides tampons, you have never had anything of such a size in it, it has to slowly stretch & get used to it. Once you do it successfully a few times, it will stop hurting/hurt far less :) (Oh, you should also expect some bleeding at first as well...totally normal)
