I hear you, Brother, and feel the same way. Hopefully the days of original composition based on real music that is on-key with real lyrics will return soon. Till then, thank God for archives.

Not all R&B & Hip Hop falls under these harsh critiques of your opinions. You obviously must have never heard of Alicia Keys, India Arie, Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, Aaliyah, Ciara, Beyonce, Jeniffer Hudson & the list goes on & on & on. All of these women are role models & sing r&b/soul. As far as hip-hop, I will agree that the majority of the artists out today are vulgar & i cant relate to a lot of it either. But there are some who still focus on the ART of rapping and actually have a positive message (Common, Kanye West, Will Smith (you did know he's a hip hop artist??) So please dont be so close minded & judgemental. Hip Hop & R&B are art forms for a society & there is good music within it.
p.s.....and you' re telling me that "progressive rock" cant be harsh and violent?? HA!!

i grew up on classic rock. i also, play guitar and write/record blues and blues rock. i love jimi, SRV, g n' r and loads of 80's, 70's and just plain rock n roll. however, there has been some rap that ive liked. 2pac had some very meaningful songs and some of his beats were very classic soul sounding. granted they were probly sampled and whatever but he put some emotion behind it and he definately felt it. that does take talent. also, i find jay-z to be an amazing lyracist. rhyming dictionaries wont give you the flow he has. there are many reasons to listen to music. to calm or relax you, to listen to someone say what you're feeling in a poetic and musical way, to get pumped up, to drive to, jogging, walking....lots of reasons and there's somethin for it all. also, i have to ad that i do NOT like any of the new stuff to come out really for any genre. it just seems that no one has a message anymore! even country is on the bandwagon, "big and rich" thats the name of the band???? save a horse ride a cowboy....its not just rap music thats like that anymore! everything has been done. no one is original anymore, they take whats popular and then amplify it by 100...bigger, better, richer, more sex, more drugs more hoes and jewels....this is everybodies thing in pop music, which somehow pop became every genre now!

hip hop-rap/ yeah. its pretty much all the same and i can't handle the swearing.whats the point of it? its like they think you can't have music with out saying f*** every other word.and the subject matter is disgusting , for the most part. as far as r&b-well that depends. the old stuff is awesome. and the 70's soul stuff was a lot of fun. the new stuff though, there are a few tunes that have caught my intrest but the majority i can do without. again-its all the same.

Well, I'm a prog rock/classic rock fanatic, but I like plenty of (older) hip hop & r&b.
Who can deny talents like Marvin Gaye, Aretha, James Brown, Grandmaster Flash, Suger Hill Gang, et al??
As for the *current* stuff, yeah. Pretty lame at the moment. You have to go underground to find meaningful hip hop. The crap on MTV & BET is ...crap.
But as long as we're being honest, I *like* seeing curvy, voluptuous, buxom chicks in those videos. :)

Me either. IMO, Its the least common denominator far as music, if you can call it that, there is. Simple music for simple people. Its not to hard to program a drum machine, or lift a riff off a song already written and PLAYED by someone else. Style, eh to each his own...80's metal styles are embarrassing, but at least that music took some talent to write and perform. How hard is it to spit words into a microphone. All it takes is a rhyming dictionary...And as far as the culture goes, Loud and obnoxious is the norm. They live for attention no matter how ridiculous it is. Real musicians write their own music, and perform it also.

properly...i'm no longer somewhat beneficial what you're able to have already got, yet some new favorites of mine are "She have been given It" (and the remix to this song is powerful too) by ability of two pistols, i admire the remix to "show regret" Lil Wayne & Bun B, "Get dollar In right here" DJ Felli Fel ft. Ludacris, Diddy, & Lil Jon, "have been given Me Going" by ability of Day 26 (Diddy's new group from making the band 4), "Bust It toddler (Remix)" Plies ft. Trey Songz, "Love interior the club" Usher ft. Jeezy

Its fun to dance to but most of it is just for money purposes. Alot of underground hip hop is better. Try atmosphere.
