The only way you will be able to max out on your push-ups and pull-ups if you do them all the time. Trust me on that one. Then also you can have good days and bad days. But mainly that is only way to do a lot of repetitions by practising a lot. When it comes to push ups...you can try close arm, wide arm, diamond and regulars to work different muscle groups. When it comes to pull-ups or chin-ups at first you need supporter. Ask someone to hold your feet and support you half way you a repetition. Then also you can do sideways type of pull up. I dont know what is a name for it, but we did those in Basic and it was progressive for me. Basically you grab a bar from both sides so your pams facing each other and your body already will position sideways. Then pull yourself half way to bend your elbow and tuck in your feet bending your legs everytime you go up. Once you can few of those practise to go all the way up to have your chin above the bar and it should help. Other then that practising is the only way to get more repetitions or give you your at least 2 or 3. Have fun!

The secret to build strength is to do it to the point you cant do any single rep more. Then give the muscles time to rebuild. Have good food too with protein and calories which youll need to burn when doin exercise. But reduce on it if you are not training too hard.
So exercise hard. Buy handle bars on which you can perform better. Always keep them at a distance equal to the length of your forehand with fingers open and straight.
Keep your head up lookin forward and not down. Do not bend your back down keep it straight....thats a common mistake ppl do when performing push ups solo on handles.

Breath in when you go down hold your breath / breath out when you come up. if holding the breath, you can let it out after you are up.

If its pull ups go on with it...its tough as hell for beginners. But you wont improve if you give up.

You need to build your upper body strength and arms. If you can't do pushups, pullups are even harder. Technique---make sure you keep your arms no further apart than shoulder width.

******** your question confessed me..do you want to do push ups or pull ups...two totally different exercises..first the push up is done off the floor or the wall and a pull up is done with a bar hanging over head and you pull your self up..I dont know how to improve your tech..but pull ups you need to have strong wrist and arms to lift your self up..see a personal trainer...
