Jose Reyes.
.310 BA, 25 HR, 60 SB
The guy is a freak athlete, he has decent power and he is learning to hit for a good average. Plus once he makes contact he has the ability to get an extra base

Albert Pujols will be the best hitter. He's only 27. He only played 143 games last season and he batted:
HR = 49, RBI =137, BB = 92, K= 50, Avg= .331, OBP= .431, SLG= .671, OPS = 1.102
I expect he'll hit over 50 HR's, 140 RBI's, and stay around the .330 average mark. He'll win NL MVP, although I thought he was a sore loser for his comments about Ryan Howard after last season. I mean he won the freaking World Series and you're complaining about losing to Howard who single-handedly carried the Phillies to playoff contention...
I actually thought you wanted to know who will be the best leadoff hitter. I throw Grady Sizemore from the Indians as a possible sleeper pick. He scored 134 runs and hit 28 HR's in 2006. If the Indians pitch better in 2006, you could hear his name in the AL MVP race.

Well there's different ways of looking at this: Batting average, or home runs. So I'll give both!
Average: Miguel Cabrera, Florida Marlins
Last Year: .339 AVG, 2nd in NL and 5th in MLB
Predicted: .348 AVG, NL Batting Champ
I think since he is a big part of that Marlins lineup, he has to produce. Plus, he's just straight up talented with great contact, great power, and decent speed. He's no Figgins or Ichiro, but he has good speed.
Home Runs/RBI's: (going out on a limb) Andruw Jones, Atlanta Braves
Last Year: 41 HR, 6th in NL and 10th in MLB
129 RBI, 4th in NL and 6th in MLB
Predicted: 53 HR, 151 RBI
Jones was on a tear all season, especially at the end of the year and I think that will carry over to this year.

It is hard to say who the best hitter will be. Personally as a Red Sox fan i hope it is Ortiz, but i expect a decrease in his numbers should manny leave Boston. Regardless, if I had to guess i would say that the best hitter in 07 will be Alfonso soriano. I believe alfonso will do better than all due to the team he is on. Last year he hit 40 some homers in the hardest park to hit homers. This year, he will be at wrigley field, the easiest place to hit homers (no offence to cub fans). I predict he will get 50 or more homers with 130 rbi's and tuns of runs scored. All due to where he is playing.

it will be a two horse race...
1st- Jimmy Rollins- .320 avg/ 28 hr/ 47 sb/ and probably one hit streak of 18-20 games. He's good and getting better with utley's numbers rising Rollins will too. Phillies could have one of the better lineups in the National league.
2nd - Alfonso Soriano- .305 avg/ 45/ 45sb/115 rbi... this is all determined on whether the cubs leave him in the lead off spot. He's a 40/40 type of guy. Not to bad seeing as though not many people can say they went for 40hr's and 40 sb's in one season. Only draw back... strikes out way too much.
question asked best #1 hitter as in leadoff.... not best overall hitter that takes derek Jeter, albert Pujols and David ortiz off the list.... Unless ortiz is gonna start stealing bases!

Jose Reyes of the Mets or whoever's hitting in front of Utley, Rollins and Howard for the Phillies - he's gonna score a lot of runs. I would stick with Reyes, he strikes out a bit much, but he hits for a good average (.300+) and he's electric when he gets on base, ideal for a leadoff guy.

your probably going to think I'm crazy but I think its going to be Ryan Howard. He led the Phillies in HRS Batting avg and rbi's
i tihnbk he has a shot at triple crown this year
he just needs someone to protect him
he will have an awesome year wiht 60 hrs 330 average and 160 rbi

The best hitter (I'm going to take that as the guy with the best batting average) could be Albert Pujols, A-Rod (Dang is he gorgeous!), or maybe even frickin Freddy Sanchez again, but I do KNOW this: Barry Bonds will break Hank Aaron's career homerun record!

Albert Pujols.
Prediction: .345, 49 home runs, 128 RBI's
A singles hitter that can hit for power. Extremely dangerous. Willing to take walks. Smart hitter.
