It means gain in body fat during pregnancy.

Maternal = of pregnancy
Adiposity = fatty tissue, gain in fatty tissue

Following menarche, adiposity increases, particularly in the viscera and at subcutaneous sites on the trunk. Because the adipose tissue stored at these sites is an important determinant of insulin resistance, adolescents who conceive soon after menarche might start pregnancy with smaller adipose tissue stores and therefore be less insulin resistant than older women who are the same size. Maternal insulin resistance is one factor that affects the relationship between fetal and maternal weight gain. Therefore, a low percentage of maternal central body fat could impair fetal growth by creating a metabolic environment that favors maternal over fetal fat deposition.

Abstract

Objective This study was undertaken to study the effect of parity on maternal and neonatal characteristics.

Study design Maternal anthropometry, diet, micronutrient status, biochemistry, and physical activity were measured during pregnancy and detailed neonatal size recorded in 770 pregnancies in rural Maharashtra, India.

Results Increasing parity was associated with larger offspring birth weight, skinfold thicknesses, and abdominal circumference, but not head circumference and length. Compared with primiparous women, multiparous women were older, less adipose, and more physically active but had similar education, socioeconomic status, nutritional intake, and weight gain during pregnancy. They had lower circulating concentrations of hemoglobin, albumin, ferritin, glucose, and insulin and lower total leucocyte counts at 18 and 28 weeks' gestation. There was no difference in their husbands' body size. The relationship between maternal parity and neonatal weight and adiposity was significant independent of the difference in maternal characteristics.

Conclusion Increasing maternal parity predicts increasing adiposity in the newborn infant. This may result from maternal nutritional, cardiovascular, or immunologic factors.

it means that he thinks or knows that you have a high body mass index (BMI), basically it means that you are overweight. adipose tissue is medic speak for fat and maternal means mother (you, not your mother i'm afraid). 'maternal obesity' would be another way of putting it but since more people understand obesity than adiposity i suspect the doctor was trying to cover his back by using a word you might not understand.

sorry to be the bearer of bad news, good luck with the pregnancy :o)

It is referring to weight - maternal = mother, adipose = fat, so it is referring to the amount of fat either you or your mother has, especially if it is genetic and could affect the child.
