Last year I got a "windfall" cheque for over £2k (it's all gone now but It was nice to be able not to worry about cash for a while). This question is directed to people who work for a living who don't rely on benefits from the state (which you get without having to work).

My husband and I work hard. We have two children. We have debt, but not much. Our problem is we're trying to buy a home. It seems to be impossible to get money for a down payment. My mother-in-law (and her husband) are sending us a check for $5000 to pay off our credit card bills. Then (since they just came into a lot of money) are going to give us money for the down payment of the house.) We feel SOOOO blessed.
