Depends...your personality plays a huge role in deciding ones solitray tendancies. Most introvereted people (i.e- artists, authors, composers) tend to value their time alone as a great time to reflect, the cornerstone of any great peice of art.

It's a personal paradise, the minds vacation to a small tropical island. On this island you can be sure that no others will ruin your sandcastles.

However, some find solitude as a venting of their fear. This fear than manifests itself in their nerosis (to blame everyone but yourself). Once the individual becomes scared of the outisde world they find solice in solitude.

I am not sure why others like it but I enjoy solitude (in my house we call it alone time)... because it give me a chance to work through my thoughts... to really concentrate on something... say studying chess or playing a music.... or simply reading... things I enjoy which are best done alone...

I think for me it is time that I cannot be aggitated by others...

perhaps the answer is that I like it because I don't get much of it... if I was alone all the time I might cherrish my time with others more... ???

I love solitude. It's a break away from people wanting you to do things. It's also a break from being social. Sometimes talking to other people can be exhausting. Joining new groups and going new places can also wear a person out.

Being alone recharges some people and gets them ready to go out into the world!

Hope that helps.

i am one of those people you speak of.
nothing makes me enjoy solitude, i think its just a personal choice sometimes.
of course, there are times when you feel as if you need to be around people, or to talk to someone, but things are often simpler when you are by yourself. also, there are less distractions when you're solitary, no one else to ask opinions or permission from, and (this may sound selfish but) you dont have to make your life fit in with anyone elses.
thats the only explanation i can come up with for myself.
for others, maybe they have had bad experiences with people, or have lived in large groups for most of their lives and need a change. some people just like being alone.

"BUSY- HANDS!!!" I truely enjoy my time alone!!! But, I am constantly busy!! Plus, I have 4 children and 4 grandchildren! Only 2 teens left to raise, but they can be pretty demanding, at times!!! So, to live in Solitude is quite fine with me!!! I take walks, because I want to keep my cardio alive and healthy, I enjoy writing letters, to friends and poetry.... I clean my house, I love shopping alone, and even window shopping alone!!! I like my alone time, its very "Valuable" to me!! Because, I come from a very large family, the youngest of 6 !!! And in my younger years, I always had people in my life, so much so, these same people had their digs in me, once too many times, to the point to where I dont trust people like I used too, you know...... So, I am in my "Comfort Zone" when I am alone!!! And that is where I am at my happiest!!! It's "ME" time!! Just for me!! In which I dont get much of, with my 4 children and 4 grandchildren!!! So, I really do cherish my ALONE time!!! Smile!!!

A philosophical disposition and/or an inability to interact positively with others on a personal level. A love of nature can play a part, too.
